There was an excellent piece in the Digital Money Forum last week about making prepaid work. I especially liked Dave Birch's commentary. [See best passage in pop on left.] I feel it gets to the essence of the prepaid challenge - especially in regards to the upgrades that need to be done to most open loop acquirer systems. With their credit and debit heritages, these systems typically don't handle partial auths. Dave discusses the confusion brought about by not having partial auth functionality in place. In my last piece, I noted that FDR North and AMEX specs now contain their takes on partial auth functionality. I walked through how an acquirer would implement those features.
